MANCHESTER – A member of the staff at one of Easterseals New Hampshire’s facilities was hospitalized Monday after being bitten and kicked in the head while trying to break up a fight between three teenagers, police said.

Police and medical personnel were called to the agency’s 200 Zachary Road location around 4 p.m. Monday for a report of an assault, and upon arrival found the staff member, a woman who was not identified, suffering from injuries, according to police spokeswoman Heather Hamel.

She said police determined that three teens had gotten into a physical altercation, and that the staffer intervenened in an attempt to separate the alleged combatants.

When she did, she was bitten on the arm and pushed to the ground, then kicked in the head several times, to the point she began to black out, Hamel said.

Eventually, another staff member was able to pull her up and get her away from the group.

The extent of her injuries wasn’t immediately known.

Two of the three teens were taken into custody, Hamel said. One of them, age 17, was charged with one count each of second-degree assault and riot, while a 16-year-old was charged with one count each of simple assault and riot.

Hamel didn’t say whether the teens are male or female. She did say that they were removed from the facility pending a hearing, the date of which wasn’t immediately available.

According to Easterseals New Hampshire’s website, the agency operates a residential-educational treatment program at 200 Zachary Road.

Its main headquarters is at 555 Auburn St.
