Merrimack man arrested for allegedly dousing household member’s belongings in urine and gasoline then sending lewd photos

Richard Gwinn, 46, of Merrimack

MERRIMACK – Left alone in the house by other members of his household following an alleged domestic disturbance in January, Richard Gwinn allegedly began damaging one of the member’s personal belongings, police said.

Gwinn, 46, most recent address of 10 Wire Road, allegedly urinated on the person’s belongings, then poured gasoline over them, according to police.

Gwinn is accused of following that up by sending “repeated, unwanted communications” to the owner of the belongings, which police said consisted of “harassing text messages” accompanied by photographs of his buttocks and genitals.

Police didn’t elaborate on what may have prompted Gwinn to allegedly commit the offenses, nor did they describe the relationship between him and the alleged victim whose belongings were damaged.

They did say that officers were notified on Jan. 19 of the alleged offenses, which they said occurred Jan. 17 while the other household members were away.

Police in the meantime issued a warrant for Gwinn’s arrest, on which he turned himself in to police late last week.

The charges Gwinn faces include two counts of criminal mischief, and one count each of harassment, indecent exposure and lewdness.

All the charges are Class A misdemeanors.

Gwinn was booked on the charges and later released on personal recognizance bail pending a court appearance scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Feb. 23 in Merrimack district court.

Four years ago, according to archived police reports, Richard Gwinn, then age 42, of 10 Wire Road, was charged with one count of criminal mischief, the result of a police investigation into a tire-slashing incident.

Police said at the time that patrol officers identified Gwinn as the suspect, and drafted the warrant for his arrest.

The final disposition of that case wasn’t immediately available.
