PELHAM – Two Massachusetts residents are awaiting upcoming court appearances following their arrests over the weekend in Pelham.

The roughly two-hour incident, which began around 9:30 p.m. Friday, began when a local resident, while driving past his father’s house on Plower Road, saw that the dome light of a dump truck was illuminated and a man and a woman were standing next to the truck, according to police.

The suspects, later identified as David Abichaker, 28, of Roslindale, and Carolyn Eaton, 24, of Cambridge, allegedly tried to flee in a 2018 Honda Civic when confronted by the son, his father and a friend who came to assist, police said.

They said the homeowner and his son, who weren’t identified, were able to box-in the Civic and prevent it from leaving.

The son called police and told them he and his father were holding the suspects at gunpoint until officers arrived, police said.

Upon their arrival a couple of minutes later, the officers spoke with the homeowner, who accused Eaton and Abichaker of “trying to steal” his truck, adding that Eaton, the driver of the Civic, allegedly “nearly ran him over” at one point.

Police said officers cleared people out of the immediate area and set up a perimeter, then tried to convince the suspects to exit the Civic and surrender.

“Neither suspect complied with officers’ repeated commands,” police said, adding that they “ignored officers’ commands for hours.”

In the meantime, officers from Salem and state police troopers arrived to assist Pelham police.

Plower Road runs from Pelham Road to Bridge Street (Route 38) in the eastern part of town, not far from the Salem town line.

A little while later, police said officers watched Eaton get out of the car, go to the passenger side and get back in while Abichaker jumped into the driver’s seat.

Shortly after 11 p.m., police said, Abichaker exited the car, seemingly intent on surrendering as he “initially complied” with officers.

But as the officers approached, he allegedly “moved quickly toward a trooper,” who responded by deploying his Taser, police said.

Officers were then able to take Abichaker into custody without further incident.

Eaton also got out of the car at that time, police said, and was also taken into custody without incident.

Eaton is charged with one count each of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon; criminal trespass; criminal mischief; and resisting arrest.

Abichaker is charged with one count each of criminal trespassing and resisting arrest.

The two were transported to police headquarters for booking, and both were later released on personal recognizance bail pending their respective court appearances.

Police didn’t specify the level of the charges, but the reckless conduct with a deadly weapon offense is typically a Class B felony, while all the others are typically charged as Class A misdemeanors.

Eaton is scheduled to appear Tuesday in Hillsborough County Superior Court in Nashua, while Abichaker was given a Feb. 8 court date at Salem district court.

Police asks anyone who may have additional information on the incident to contact Sgt.
