MERRIMACK – A head-on crash involving a car and tractor-trailer unit on Continental Boulevard Tuesday evening sent the car’s driver to a local hospital after firefighters worked for nearly 45 minutes to free him from the vehicle.
The man, whose identity wasn’t immediately released, sustained injuries that officials considered serious, but not life-threatening.
Crews used multiple cutting tools and a hydraulic rescue tool known as the jaws of life to free the man from his car.
Initial information at the scene indicated that the tractor-trailer was traveling east on Continental Boulevard while the car was traveling west when the collision occurred at about 5:30 p.m.
Police closed Continental Boulevard between Naticook and Tinker roads while Merrimack police and members of State Police Troop G, the division that handles investigations involving commercial vehicles, conducted an on-scene investigation.
