Officials identify man killed in police-involved shooting in Dalton
CONCORD – The office of Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald has identified the man killed in a shooting incident with a state trooper in the Coos County town of Dalton as Mark R. Clermont, 45, of nearby Whitefield.
The trooper, who hasn’t been identified, was also shot, and was transported to a local hospital. The latest report states he is being treated for gunshot wounds and is in critical, but stable, condition.
An autopsy conducted today by Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Mitchell Weinberg confirmed Clermont’s identity, and determined that his cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head, while the manner of his death is homicide.
As used by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, homicide is defined as the killing of one person by another.
Additional details, including the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, remain actively under investigation, according to MacDonald’s office.
