Teen’s thumb slashed after verbal beef turns physical in Hudson driveway

HUDSON – One Hudson teen is facing surgery, and the possibility of physical therapy, on his thumb while another teen went to court Monday to face charges accusing him of causing the injuries by allegedly slashing the thumb during an altercation over the weekend.

Jayden Akroyd, 18, of 6B Sunshine Drive, was arraigned in Superior Court in Nashua Monday on one count each of second-degree assault and criminal threatening – deadly weapon, both Class B felonies that accuse him of slashing the 16-year-old alleged victim with “a switch blade-style knife,” according to police reports and court documents.

A Superior Court judge set Akroyd’s bail at $2,500 cash at Monday morning’s hearing. It wasn’t immediately known whether Akroyd was able to post bail.

A detective investigating the incident said doctors at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, where the alleged victim went for treatment, told the 16-year-old that the laceration he suffered caused damage to the nerves and tendons in his thumb.

He was also told by doctors his thumb would have to be operated on, and that it’s possible he would need physical therapy, the detective wrote, adding that the thumb “required stitches to be held back together.”

Earlier in the evening, four individuals – the alleged victim, his girlfriend, 17, a 22-year-old man and Akroyd – were riding around in a car driven by the 22-year-old when at some point he and Akroyd started arguing, according to the reports.

That prompted the driver to take Akroyd home, but as Akroyd got out of the car, according to what the others told police, he allegedly made “a rude remark” about the alleged victim’s girlfriend.

When the alleged victim asked Akroyd what he said, Akroyd allegedly told him to “come here” and he would tell him, the report states.

At that point, according the report, Akroyd allegedly brandished the knife, began “swinging it around … while pointing it at (the alleged victim’s) stomach and neck.”

The alleged victim, fearing injury, grabbed Akroyd’s wrist and they both fell to the ground, the report states.

It was at that point that the alleged victim suffered the thumb injury, he told the detective. He said he thought Akroyd “was gonna keep on going” and that “I was just trying not to get stabbed more … I was in fear for my safety and my life,” he told the detective.

The driver and the alleged victim’s girlfriend were eventually able to separate the two, according to the reports, at which time the driver took the alleged victim to the hospital.
