MERRIMACK – Motorists traveling to Merrimack on the Everett Turnpike Saturday will need to use either Exit 10 or Exit 12 to exit the turnpike, as the Exit 11 northbound off-ramp will be closed from 7a.m. – 3 p.m., state Department of Transportation officials said.

The closure is needed to accommodate the next phase of the ongoing project to remove the Exit 11 toll plaza, officials said.

The work planned for Saturday involves the dismantling and removal of the plaza’s canopy and its accompanying structural supports, according to officials.

They said the closure affects only the Exit 11 northbound off-ramp, and that the northbound on-ramp and both of the ramps on the southbound side of the Turnpike will remain open at all times.

The work is part of the state’s $578,000 project to remove the toll plaza at the Exit 11 interchange, officials said, adding that the project’s completion date is Dec. 18.
