WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and Representative Annie Kuster (NH-02) announced that the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded Creare LLC in Hanover $784,347 in federal funds in support of climate change research. Specifically, the funding was awarded through DOE’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) program, which seeks to fund the creation of high-potential, high-impact energy technologies that will develop new ways for Americans to get, use and store energy. The award is an investment in carbon emissions reduction technology research and will support Creare’s development of a low-cost air contactor that will capture carbon dioxide from the air so that it can be recovered, concentrated and stored. Senator Shaheen is a strong supporter of robust funding for small business research innovation programs like ARPA-E and has continuously led successful efforts to prevent funding for ARPA-E from being eliminated.

“New Hampshire small businesses are catalysts for high-tech research and innovation and have the fortitude to create new, resourceful ways to combat climate change and protect our environment, while reducing energy costs and creating jobs,” said Senator Shaheen. “I am very pleased that Creare has received these funds, which will help support the company’s exciting work in support of research to reduce harmful carbon emissions. Securing federal investments in the Department of Energy’s programs that are put to good use here in the Granite State has long been a top priority of mine, and I’ll continue to fight for more funding through my work on the Senate Appropriations Committee.”
