NASHUA – Members of the Nashua police Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Unit pulled over a vehicle on Amherst Street last week and ended up taking two men into custody on various charges, including drug possession-related offenses, police said.

First to be arrested was Ernie Roig, 32, of 95 Bowers St., Apt. C, and six minutes later, Angel Encarnacion, 34, whose most recent addresses are listed as Charles Street and 18 Caron Ave., was also under arrest.

Police said officers “encountered” Roig when they “initiated the motor vehicle stop on Amherst Street.”

Upon investigating, police said officers learned that Roig had an active capias warrant for allegedly violating a court order issued by Hillsborough County Superior Court.

Officers, after arresting Roig on the warrant, found him to allegedly be in possession of a quantity of heroin/fentanyl, and a records check showed that Roig was convicted in January of a drug-related offense, police said.

That upped the new charge to a subsequent offense, which is a Class A felony, police said.

As for Encarnacion, police said officers identified him as the driver of the vehicle they had stopped on Amherst Street.

He was subsequently found to allegedly be in possession of what was believed to be a quantity of heroin/fentanyl, and was placed under arrest, police said.

Officers also learned that Encarnacion’s drivers license and registration privileges had been suspended.

He was charged with a special felony for the alleged drug-possession offense, police said. The registration suspension charge is a Class A misdemeanor, while the driving after revocation or suspension is a violation-level offense.

Both men were held at Valley Street jail pending arraignment in Superior Court.
