Pappas hosts reproductive rights roundtable

By Staff | Sep 29, 2020

U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas (NH-01) visited the Joan G. Lovering Health Center in Greenland Monday to host a roundtable discussion on the future of reproductive rights and what’s at stake for reproductive health care in the upcoming election. Chris was joined by the Joan G. Lovering Health Center Executive Director Lisa Leach, Former Speaker of the New Hampshire House Terie Norelli, Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Cynthia Bear, reproductive rights advocate Sierran Lucey, and #Fight4HER organizer Sadie Faucher.

“I’ve been a leading voice for affordable health care and the right to choose during my time in public service, and this fight has taken on a new urgency,” said Congressman Chris Pappas. “With the fate of the Affordable Care Act and reproductive rights hanging in the balance, the stakes of this election could not be any higher. Every Granite Stater deserves affordable health care and access to reproductive care, and I’ll take on any politician who stands in the way.”

“As an advocate and a woman, I am deeply concerned about the future of reproductive rights – both nationwide and here in New Hampshire,” said reproductive rights advocate Sierran Lucey. “Chris’s opponent Matt Mowers, who has declared himself the ‘only pro-life candidate in the race,’ has made it clear that he prioritizes propping up the Trump administration over the health and rights of Granite Staters. While working in the U.S. State Department Matt Mowers helped the administration reinstate and expand the global gag rule, stripping away reproductive care for countless people worldwide. Matt Mowers needs to come forward and explain to voters why he supported the State Department’s reinstatement and expansion of the global gag rule and what role he played.”

During his time in Congress, Chris has advocated for legislation to protect reproductive rights and health care. He is a staunch supporter of the Affordable Care Act, which has made health care more equitable for women and LGBTQ individuals, and he is a co-sponsor of the Global HER Act which would permanently repeal the global gag rule and ensure women and girls worldwide have access to reproductive health care. As a member of the Pro-Choice Caucus, Chris has stood up to attempts by the Trump Administration to limit funding for women’s health centers through Title X rule changes and has consistently fought to protect funding for Planned Parenthood.
