NASHUA – Two adults and five children successfully escaped their burning home on Mulberry Street Monday evening, but the damage left them unable to return for the time being.
A local Red Cross team responded to assist the family with temporary housing and other needs resulting from the fire, officials said.
Nashua Fire Rescue Deputy Chief Kevin Kerrigan said the cause of the blaze is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office.
He said crews manning three engines and ladder truck, along with an AMR ambulance, responded just before 8 p.m. to the two-story, single family residence at 27 Mulberry St. for a report of a house fire.
Kerrigan, who was first on the scene, reported smoke showing from the building. The residents, by then safely outside, told him a second-floor bedroom and bathroom were ablaze.

The crew of Engine 4 stretched a hose line up to the second floor, and with the assistance from the Engine 2 crew, were able to knock down and extinguish the fire in a short time.
Another crew, meanwhile, searched the house, Kerrigan said, to confirm that nobody was inside. The crew then turned its attention to venting the building of smoke.
The ambulance crew was reportedly asked to check on one of the residents, but he or she declined medical treatment.
Once the fire was extinguished, crews spread large tarps called “salvage covers” over furniture and other belongings on the first floor to try and minimize water damage.
