James Albert , 36, of 52 Island Drive, Merrimack

MERRIMACK – Police said officers who responded Aug. 22 to a report of a shirtless, shoeless man doing jumping jacks in a residential driveway, then observed him allegedly “sniffing a shrub with his eyes closed,” was arrested over the weekend following a disturbance at his residence.

James Albert, 36, of 52 Island Drive, was charged with possession of methamphetamine in connection with the August incident, but police didn’t say whether he was charged with any offenses stemming from the disturbance.

They did say that officers were called to Albert’s residence for the reported disturbance, and while they were en route they were informed that Albert was allegedly seen in a car leaving the residence.

Officers located the car a short time later, pulled it over and arrested Albert without incident, police said.

He was booked on the charge at police headquarters and released on personal recognizance bail pending an appearance in Merrimack district court, which has yet to be scheduled, police said.

As for the August incident, police said they called medical personnel to the scene after observing what they described as “behaviors consistent with drug use.”

While checking Albert for weapons, an officer reportedly recovered a small baggie containing a crystal substance, which “Albert admitted was methamphetamine,” police said.

Upon evaluating Albert, medical personnel told police he should be transported to a hospital for further medical attention.

Police seized the methamphetamine, and subsequently issued the warrant for Albert’s arrest.
