Hudson police charge driver with DWI after crash, then Nashua police arrest him on drug-related charges

Jeffrey Paul, 28, of 10 Shelly Drive, Hudson

HUDSON – Back-to-back arrests by Hudson and Nashua police roughly three hours apart Monday evening left 30-year-old Hudson resident Jeffrey Paul facing charges in both jurisdictions, according to police.

The series of incidents began for Paul, of 10 Shelly Drive, around 6:30 p.m. when police were called to a single-vehicle crash on Speare Road not far from Gates Lane.

Upon arrival, officers found that a 2008 Hyundai Elantra had crashed into a tree and identified Paul as the driver, police said.

Through their investigation, officers determined Paul had been traveling south on Speare Road, allegedly operating the vehicle in erratic fashion, including traveling on the wrong side of the road and nearly colliding with an oncoming vehicle, police said.

Another witness told police the vehicle almost struck a pedestrian just before it went off the road and struck the tree.

Police said Paul declined medical attention, and after a brief investigation officers took him into custody. They transported him to headquarters, where they booked him on one count each of driving while intoxicated and operating after certification as a habitual offender, as well as for having two outstanding electronic bench warrants.

Paul was later released on personal recognizance bail pending arraignment in Superior Court, which has yet to be scheduled, police said.

Then, roughly two and a half hours later, Nashua police arrested Paul on a warrant they issued last year, following an investigation into allegations Paul was selling cocaine in Nashua, police said.

It wasn’t clear whether the two outstanding warrants with which Hudson police charged Paul are tied to the warrant Nashua police issued on the drug-sales allegations.

Either way, Nashua police charged Paul with three counts of sale of a controlled drug – cocaine, which are special felonies.

He was booked at Nashua headquarters and again released on personal recognizance bail pending the arraignment that’s yet to be scheduled.
