Greater Nashua Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Conference goes virtual

By Staff | Sep 14, 2020

NASHUA – The city of Nashua Division of Public Health and Community Services (DPHCS) has officially rescheduled the 2020 Greater Nashua Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Conference. This free half-day, interactive conference will be held in a virtual format on Wednesday, September 30th from 8 am to 12 pm.

This year, families may be spending more time in their homes as they continue to follow public health recommendations by practicing healthy and safe behaviors. Children in the Greater Nashua Region could have increased exposure to lead during the COVID-19 pandemic as over 50% of homes in our region were built before 1978, the year that lead paint was banned.

The Leading Education and Awareness on Lead (L.E.A.D.) in Greater Nashua initiative continues to work on increasing blood lead level testing for children under 6 years of age by educating the Greater Nashua community that all children are at risk for lead poisoning and every child should be tested at 1 and 2 years of age, as well as children aged 3 to 6 who have not previously been tested.

We invite our community to attend as partners in the Greater Nashua Region work to educate and engage our community on the impact of childhood lead poisoning, the importance of childhood blood lead testing, and the next steps we can take to keep our children safe and healthy. The goal of this conference is to empower the Greater Nashua Region to increase engagement in initiatives and collaborations aimed at preventing childhood lead poisoning in our community.

Following this conference, participants will be able to:

Provide an overview of childhood lead poisoning and how it impacts children in our community;

Highlight current initiatives related to childhood lead poisoning prevention in the Greater Nashua Region; and

Share lead poisoning prevention educational opportunities with partners and community members.

Who should attend? Health Care Providers, Child Care Professionals, Teachers, Special Education Professionals, School Nurses, Realtors, Landlords, Social Service Providers, Caregivers, Community Members, and all those interested in or impacted by childhood lead poisoning.
