Annual Kelly Mann Memorial fundraiser for Bridges goes ‘virtual’ this year

By Dean Shalhoup - Senior Staff Reporter | Sep 14, 2020

NASHUA – The 15th annual Kelly Mann Memorial 5K Run and 3K Walk, a fundraiser for Nashua-based Bridges: Domestic and Sexual Violence Support, is taking place this week in a new format, necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rather than all participants gathering in one place and running or walking as one group, everyone taking part this year will run or walk anytime they choose, as long as their time is submitted by the end of Saturday, Sept. 19, according to organizers.

The run/walk was created following one of the area’s most heinous cases of domestic violence assault, in which 34-year-old Kelly Mann was brutally murdered by her husband in their Nashua home in July 2004 – while their three young daughters listened in the next room.

Organizers say they are “looking forward to” the “virtual format,” because people from around the country “get to run with us.”

“This year, it’s easier than ever to participate because you can run or walk anytime,” organizers said. “Register today and run or walk your favorite route sometime in the next week to show your support.”

To register, go to www.runreg.com/bridges-kelly-mann-memorial-5k-and-3k-walk and click on the “register” button. Additional details can also be found on the site.

In the meantime, organizers listed some FAQs about the race.

* Q: When is the race? A: With the virtual format, the race can be any day you want it to be. You just need to submit your time by 11:59 p.m. Sept. 19.

* Q: Where is the race? A: You choose. You can run on the treadmill, on your favorite street route or local trail. If you use the Strava, MapMyRun or RunKeeper apps, you can easily keep track of your distance and time.

* Q: When and where do I pick up my bib? A: Your online registration comes with a custom downloadable bib. Download your bib and wear it with pride as you run.

* Q: How do I submit my time? A: RunReg, where you registered for the race, is also where you submit your time.
