Mark Daileanes, 51, of Nashua

HUDSON – A local man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, along with a felony count of reckless conduct involving a deadly weapon, after he allegedly ran two cars off of Dracut Road, struck a utility pole then traveled across the lawns of several homes Labor Day evening, before his truck rolled to a stop in front of 5 Deerfield Ave., police said.

An officer on patrol came across the crash around 6:30 p.m., and upon investigating found the driver of a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup, whom he identified as Mark Daileanes, 51, sitting in the truck suffering from injuries.

The officer summoned an ambulance for Daileanes, who police said lost consciousness when the ambulance and firefighters arrived.

Medical personnel treated Daileanes and transported him to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua. While en route to the hospital, police said, Daileanes came to, and was asked by one of the medics “if he caused the accident deliberately,” to which Daileanes allegedly replied “yes,” according to police.

The investigating officer a short time later went to the hospital to speak with Daileanes, and found him “in and out of consciousness,” the reports state.

Daileanes allegedly told the officer he had two “captain and coke” drinks several hours earlier, and that he also had allegedly taken heroin and meth, the latter a nickname for methamphetamine.

The officer, according to the reports, “explained the bail process to Daileanes three times due to him being incoherent.” He ultimately refused bail.

The officer then “began to read ALS to Daileanes,” referring to administrative license suspension, which police read to suspects facing drunk-driving charges.

But during the process, police said, Daileanes “became incoherent and fell asleep.”

Daileanes was later transported to Hudson police headquarters for booking, then taken to Valley Street jail to await Tuesday’s arraignment and bail hearing.

Judge Charles Temple, who presided over the hearing in Hillsborough County Superior Court South in Nashua, ordered Daileanes held on preventive detention, noting the “facts and circumstances surrounding the reckless conduct complaint,” and referring to “significant mental health and medical issues” in the order.

Temple also ruled that the court would consider modifying bail to personal recognizance “upon a mental health assessment,” and pending the result of a bail review hearing scheduled for Sept. 15.

According to police, the series of incidents began when Daileanes, who police list as a Nashua resident in their reports, but court paperwork shows an address of 167 Merrimack St., Apt. 2, Manchester, was driving south on Dracut Road shortly before 6:30 p.m.

As he neared the intersection of Dracut and Brookfield Drive, Daileanes’s truck crossed over the solid yellow line into the path of two northbound vehicles, police said.

The drivers of both cars told police they were allegedly forced off the road by Daileanes’s truck, and one of them crashed into brush along Dracut Road.

Somewhere between Brookfield Drive and Deerfield Avenue, both of which run off Dracut Road a few hundred yards apart, Daileanes’s truck sideswiped a utility pole, police said, then traveled through several residential yards before stopping at 5 Deerfield.

The reckless conduct – deadly weapon charge stems from allegations that Daileanes ran the two cars off the road with his truck.

Two counts of possession of a controlled drug also appear on the police affidavit and in police reports, but they are not listed on Daileanes case summary.

Following Daileanes’s Sept. 15 review hearing, his next court date is a dispositional conference scheduled for Nov. 10 in the Nashua court.
