Nashua Public Library

NASHUA – With fall comes changes for the better at the Nashua Public Library, which, like all institutions public and private, continues the gradual process of returning to normal, pre-COVID-19 pandemic conditions.

Outreach and Marketing Librarian Carol Luers Eyman has announced the following updates for fall.

* Library hours: 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday. Building closed Friday and Sunday until further notice.

Curbside pickup is available during those hours.

* Phone calls, emails and chat are answered from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday and from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

* Patrons can now enter the library for various purposes, including to pick up reserved materials; view and choose from displays of new materials or those that cover timely topics; ask librarians to retrieve books from the stacks; pick up items printed remotely using the “Print From Anywhere” service; make photocopies and send faxes; get advice from librarians about what to read or watch next; and pick up passes to museums and other facilities that have reopened.

Patrons can also use computers and printers, but must make an appointment by calling 589-4600.

* Interlibrary loan program, which allows patrons to request items from other libraries, is resuming on Sept. 15. Patrons can enter requests by going to nashualibrary.org/explore/interlibrary-loan-2.

* Virtual events: The fall calendar is full of events to be held either virtually or using curbside pickup. To view the calendar, go to nashualibrary.org/attend/current-programs, or pick up a copy in the library.

* Adult events returning for fall include the Downtown Book Group, computer classes and craft classes. Many programs are also scheduled, including “Forgotten African Americans of World War II,” “Maximizing Your Social Security Benefits,” and “Holiday Pies: Sweet and Savory.”

* Children and teens can participate in “take-n-make” crafts; plus virtual storytimes for children and virtual AniMondays for teens.

* New this fall: Virtual escape rooms. Patrons are encouraged to get the whole family involved in solving puzzles to “break out” of the rooms.

* Remote instruction support. The library has numerous resources available to help students and educators with remote learning, including research databases, e-media, and online classes. For more information, go to nashualibrary.org/explore/remote-instruction-support.

* Free food for children. Packets of free, nonperishable foods for children under age 18 to take home will continue to be available at the library through the school year, thanks to the efforts of End 68 Hours of Hunger.

* Books by Mail. The program has been expanded to allow participation by anyone age 60 plus, and by those with conditions putting them at high risk of serious illness from COVID-19. Applications are available at nashualibrary.org/services/books-by-mail-2.

* Overdue fines are suspended at least through Sept. 30. Temporary library cards, obtained online, are valid until further notice.

* For more information or to answer any questions, call the library at 589-4600 or fill out an email form that can be found at nashualibrary.org/contact-us.
