WASHINGTON – On Thursday, U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, (D-NH), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and U.S. Sen. Maggie Hassan (D-NH) and U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02) announced an $821,500 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DoT) to the Nashua Transit System. Specifically, the funding was awarded through the Federal Transit Administration’s Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program, and will be used by the transit agency to replace two of the oldest vehicles in its fleet and make safety and technological upgrades to its Transit Center. Shaheen and Hassan sent letters of support for the City of Nashua’s application for the federal grant. The funding comes in addition to a $356,046 DoT Low or No Emission Grant that was announced by the congressional delegation in May.

“The Nashua Transit System provides affordable and dependable public transportation that Nashua residents can rely on,” said Senator Shaheen. “I am very pleased to see these federal funds awarded, which will allow the NTS to purchase new, safer and more reliable vehicles to transport Nashua residents and make important improvements to its Transit Center. I’ll continue to work across the aisle to secure the investments New Hampshire needs to overhaul our state’s aging transportation infrastructure and public transit systems.”
