Makayla A. Cherichel, age 22, of 90 Amherst Street, Apartment A, Nashua

NASHUA – A 22-year-old Nashua woman is free on personal recognizance bail pending arraignment on a single count of felony theft, which police say stems from the alleged theft of a Pomeranian dog valued at about $3,000.

Makayla A. Charichel, of 90 Amherst St., Apt. A, is accused of stealing the dog from a local pet store, which police didn’t name, sometime the afternoon of July 17.

Upon investigating, the officers identified Cherichel as the suspect, and were able to locate her about an hour later, still in possession of the dog, police said.

Police noted that the dog was not harmed during the incident, and officers returned it to the pet store a short time after arresting Charichel.

They didn’t give a motive for the alleged theft, nor did they say whether Charichel planned to keep the dog as a pet or had other intentions.

Because of the value of the dog, the theft charge is a Class A felony, police said.

The date of Charichel’s arraignment in Hillsborough County Superior Court South has yet to be determined, police said.

They ask anyone with any additional information on the incident to call the department’s Crime Line at 589-1665.
