MILFORD – On the heels of the wildly successful Garth Brooks concert, which was shown at the Milford Drive-In, 531 Elm St., on June 27, it’s been announced that a special concert with Blake Shelton, will air at the iconic outdoor movie theater on July 25.

Milford drive-in owner Barry Scharmett said the Brooks concert was a great experience for not just the audience of cars that packed the place but also for venue owners like Scharmett who have seen a new and different life for drive-in theaters.

“It’s been great,” he said. “Fantastic. We had a great turnout for Garth and we have the Blake concert on Saturday the 25th. It’s been very positive.”

“Encore Drive-In Nights” has launched what many to consider to be a must-see concert experience of the summer, featuring shows which air at drive-ins and outdoor theaters across the United States and Canada. The all new performances are filmed exclusively for each one-night only event and include interviews and a bit of storytelling.

“This is such a great way to enjoy music with your family and friends and stay safe,” Shelton said. “I’m excited we’re getting the chance to perform a concert for fans and we’re going to go back and play old hits like ‘Austin,’ newer songs like ‘God’s Country,’ and we might even introduce something brand new.”

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, drive-in theaters have proven to be a safe, creative way to deliver fans big name acts thanks to their ability to engage large groups of people in open-air layouts.

“After the overwhelming response to Garth Brooks’ drive-in concert feature, we knew we knew we had to launch ‘Encore Drive-In Nights’ to provide fans across the U.S. and Canada the chance to see their favorites artists in a cool new way,” Encore Live Founder and CEO Walter Kinzie said. “We can’t wait to bring music’s biggest stars to outdoor movie screens across North America so that people can get back out there again and safely enjoy engaging in-person experiences.”

Unlike traditional concert tickets that are bought for individuals admission, each ticket for the “Encore Drive-In Nights” will admit one passenger car, truck or SUV. That means up to six family members or friends (as many as there are legal seatbelts) can enjoy the outdoor concert experience together for one low cost.

Fans can expect a lot of the hits by Shelton, who will be joined with special guests Gwen Stefani and Trace Adkins.

Milford Drive-In, like other outdoor theaters, will adhere to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommended guidelines as well as state and local health mandates. Staff will wear protective equipment and enforce at least six feet of space between cars. The series will also use contactless payment and ticketing systems and limit capacity in restrooms.
