BROOKLINE – An experimental aircraft piloted by a Brookline resident crash-landed Saturday at Brookline Airport, resulting in some damage to the craft but no apparent injuries to the pilot.

Firefighters from Brookline and Hollis, along with Brookline police and Brookline Ambulance Service personnel were called Saturday afternoon to the airstrip, which is off Pigeon Hill Road in the western part of town, after receiving reports that a small plane had crashed.

First-arriving crews assisted the pilot, who was medically evaluated at the scene but declined further medical treatment.

The small plane, with the word “experimental” on the side and the number N783TH on the tail, is registered to Brookline resident Theodor Hauri, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The FAA identified the craft as a Pipistrel Sinus 912 Glider, which, according to www.pipistrel-usa.com, is a two-seat, single-engine ultralight motor glider with a top speed of 135 mph.

Winds were gusting at the time of the crash, but it’s not known if they played a role in the crash-landing.

A person at the scene who is familiar with Hauri, the pilot, said Hauri had just recently completed building the plane.

Crews assisted Hauri in getting the aircraft back onto the airstrip. Whether a formal investigation will take place wasn’t immediately known.
