Nashua man charged with indecent exposure, lewdness after allegedly displaying his genitals to 14-year-old girl
NASHUA – Arraignment and a bail hearing were pending Wednesday for 22-year-old Nashua resident Yusuf Bin Abdul-Majid, who is charged with a felony offense for allegedly exposing himself to a teenage girl over the weekend.
Abdul-Majid, of 48 Central St., is charged with one count of indecent exposure/lewdness, a Class B felony that accuses him of approaching, flirting with, then exposing his genitals to the girl, age 14, as she sat outside her downtown apartment building.
Police said they believe Abdul-Majid’s first language is Burmese, and that he speaks very little English. In post-arrest interviews, he appeared to indicate he didn’t understand much of what was being said, police wrote in their reports.
Detectives contacted an interpreter for assistance, but Abdul-Majid allegedly seemed to “be attempting to avoid” speaking about the allegations and trying “to draw out the process,” police said.
Abdul-Majid eventually told detectives “he had approximately 25 alcoholic beverages … and he felt he was intoxicated,” so the detectives ended the interview, police said.
Abdul-Majid was subsequently jailed pending his arraignment and bail hearing, which was initially scheduled for Tuesday, but Superior Court Judge Charles Temple ordered it continued after the parties were unable to locate an interpreter, according to court documents.
As for the investigation into the incident, police said officers who responded to the call spoke with the alleged victim, who said a man had approached her while “loosely waving his body” and began flirting with her.
He allegedly exposed his genitals, the girl told police, and “began playing with himself,” at which time she called to her father inside the apartment.
Her father and brother came out and searched for the suspect while she called police. Just before police arrived, the suspect, later identified as Abdul-Majid, returned to the scene.
Police said officers spoke with him but were unable to get a statement due to the language barrier. They had, however, collected enough evidence and witness statements to arrest Abdul-Majid and take him into custody.
Police ask that anyone with any additional information on the case to contact the department’s Crime Line at 589-1665.
