MILFORD – Teachers and roughly 10 children inside the Early Learning Center of Milford all escaped injury when a Nashua Transit bus with one passenger on board crashed into the building Thursday afternoon.
Police Chief Craig Frye said it’s believed the driver of the bus suffered a medical problem, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, cross a parking lot and strike the building.
He was transported by Milford ambulance to a Nashua hospital for treatment, Frye said. His identity and condition weren’t immediately available.
Frye said there was one passenger on the bus, an adult who sustained minor injuries and was also transported to a Nashua hospital.
The crash occurred about 12:30 p.m. at 352 Elm St., an L-shaped, split-level building on the corner of Elm Street and Westchester Drive, and across Elm Street from Hayward’s ice cream.

Frye said crews were initially dispatched to a motor vehicle crash at the location. Upon arrival, they found the bus up against the front of the building, its engine compartment almost entirely inside the structure.
“We were very fortunate there were no other vehicles involved,” Frye said.
He said the bus will be inspected for any issues that may have contributed to the crash.
