Two arrested after fisticuffs break out in Merrimack hotel

MERRIMACK — Two men from out of town face disorderly conduct and resisting arrest charges, the result police say of a fight that broke out in the hallway of a local hotel.

Donald Joslyn, 42, of 4 Davidson Road, Jaffrey, and Joseph Smith, 26, of 104 O’Malley St., Manchester, are scheduled to return to Merrimack to appear in district court on May 19, police said.

The men are both charged with one count each of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, which are Class A misdemeanors.

Police said officers responded to the hotel, which police didn’t name, for a report of a possible domestic assault in progress.

Upon arrival, one of the officers “observed two males, later identified as Joslyn and Smith, actively fighting each other in a hallway,” police said.

When the officer attempted to break up the fight to further investigate the incident, both men allegedly “refused to comply and struggled with the officer” while in the process of being handcuffed.

Witnesses told officers they heard “loud arguing coming from one of the rooms,” which they said led to the alleged physical altercation in the hallway.

Joslyn and Smith were transported to police headquarters for booking, then later released on personal recognizance bail pending their court appearances.
