AMHERST – Girl Scout cookie season has arrived once again, and upwards of one million packages of cookies will be distributed from an Amherst warehouse for troops across New Hampshire and southern Vermont.

“Everybody is familiar with Girl Scout cookies – they’ve been around forever,” Able Moving and Storage President John Nolan said. “It’s a well-made product.”

Nolan is overseeing the tens of thousands of cases of Girl Scout cookies that make their way to New Hampshire from Kentucky to be distributed to various troops. From this Amherst warehouse, these cookies will soon be delivered throughout New Hampshire and southern Vermont. Able has been distributing these cookies for nearly 20 years. He said this year is typical, with cases stacked high in the warehouse.

“I would guesstimate 80,000 cases,” Nolan said. “They’ll be sending us some more, which is just under 1 million packages.”

On Monday, his warehouse contained around 60,000 cases, featuring eight different types of cookies – Do-si-dos, Lemon-Ups, Samoas, S’mores, Toffee-tastic, Tagalongs, Thin Mints and Trefoils.

“Thin Mints and Samoas are clearly the most popular,” Nolan said.

Nolan said this operation began on Feb. 13, and will likely last through the third week in March.

The Able facility received 19 tractor-trailer loads of cookies in January and February from Louisville, Kentucky. Able said these will be delivered to cupboards in communities such as West Chesterfield, Manchester and Exeter, for example. Cupboards are central locations where Girl Scouts from various troops can pick up cookies.

In addition to delivering to these cupboard sites, Able also delivers to service units, which can be local churches, schools or homes, for example.

“This Friday is our first big delivery day,” Nolan said. “We’ve got six delivers on Friday. We’ve got eight deliveries on Saturday – and then another seven deliveries on Sunday. This weekend alone, we’ve got upwards of 20 to 25 deliveries.”
