Toadstool hosting two authors on Feb. 22

By Staff | Feb 10, 2020

NASHUA – R.W.W. Greene will be at the Nashua Toadstool Bookshop at 6 p.m. on Feb. 22. Earlier in the day, at 2 p.m., Damien Rigden will be on hand signing books, as well.

Greene is a New Hampshire writer with an Master’s in Fine Arts, which he exorcises in dive bars and coffee shops. He is a frequent panelist at the Boskone Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention in Boston, and his work has been in Stupefying Stories, Daily Science Fiction, New Myths and Jersey Devil Press, among others. Greene is a past board member of the New Hampshire Writers’ Project. He keeps bees, collects typewriters and lives with writer/artist spouse Brenda and two cats.

His debut novel is “The Light Years.”

In it, the captain of a family-owned starship arranges a marriage for her son in hopes of achieving faster-than-light travel and maybe, just maybe, marital bliss.

Before Hisako Saski is even born, her parents make a deal on her behalf. In exchange for a first-class education and a boost out of poverty, Hisako will marry Adem Sadiq, a maintenance engineer and self-styled musician who works the trade lanes aboard his family’s sub-light starship, the Hajj.

Hisako is not happy when she finds out about the plan. She has little interest in the broken branch of physics the deal requires her to study, and is not keen on the idea of giving up her home and everything she knows to marry a stranger.

Sparks fly when Adem and Hisako meet, but their personal issues are overshadowed by the discovery of long-held secrets and a chance at faster-than-light travel.

At 2 p.m., Rigden will do a book signing of his debut science fiction thriller novelette, “Swan Song.” He also is an artist and will be bringing a print of his for a raffle.

Ringe said, “I am a New England based artist. My background is a mix of engineering, architecture and studio art classes. I have been fortunate enough to find a balance in my life where I can keep exploring the line between my technical and creative interests. I enjoy a variety of media, but most of my projects start their life as a pen sketch or study.”

“I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. After WPI, I spent some time studying architecture at the BAC in Boston. I have taken classes at the Currier Museum and New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester,” he added, “I also studied reduction woodcut printmaking for a year and a half at Piscataqua Fine Arts in Portsmouth.”

Rigden may be reached at damien@theartofkane.com. His website is theartofkane.com.

Both events are free and open to the public. For additional information, call 603-673-1734.
