The U.S. Department of Defense confirms that Air Force Capt. Ryan S. Phaneuf, 30, of Hudson, died Monday in a crash while serving in Afghanistan.

He was assigned to the 37th Bomb Squadron at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota.

The crash involved a Bombardier E-11A aircraft in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
