NASHUA – A three-month-long extramarital affair a Lakes Region area woman told police she was having with Meredith resident Cameron Riley allegedly turned violent in a Nashua motel room on Jan. 2, according to police.

While Riley, 33, admitted to being with the woman overnight at the Amherst Street motel, he denied allegations he strangled her, slapped her face, punched her in the abdomen, smashed her iPhone and iPad and stopped her from leaving the room for hours, police said in their reports.

But after interviewing the alleged victim on three occasions, and reviewing evidence collected during their investigation, police charged Riley with a total of 13 offenses, one of them a Class B felony count of domestic violence-related second-degree assault accusing him of strangling the woman, causing impeded breathing and a trachea injury, while allegedly saying “something to the effect of ‘I will kill you,'” according to police.

The other 13 charges, all Class A misdemeanors, include eight counts of simple assault – domestic violence, two counts each of criminal mischief and false imprisonment, and one count of criminal threatening.

They accuse Riley of slapping the woman in the face, punching her in the abdomen, pushing her, spitting in her face, pulling her hair, biting her lip, blocking the exit when she tried to leave, and smashing her iPhone and iPad, according to the charging documents.

At his arraignment Thursday in Hillsborough County Superior Court-South, Riley’s personal recognizance bail was continued, as was the court order prohibiting him from having any contact with the alleged victim.

According to police, the alleged victim contacted the Moultonborough Police Department to report the allegations against Riley, and upon being notified, two Nashua officers went to Moultonborough the next day to meet with the woman.

The officers subsequently issued a warrant for Riley’s arrest on one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief, on which Meredith police arrested him the next day, police said.

As part of their investigation, police said they spoke with a hotel housekeeping supervisor who “confirmed that she observed blood on a bed” in the room, and found a damaged iPad that had been left behind.

The supervisor told police that the crew that cleaned the room described it as “trashed,” according to the reports.

When detectives interviewed the alleged victim again on Jan. 9, she told them she and Riley had consensual sex “multiple times” in the room, then went out to a nearby restaurant.

The woman said she “began sending and receiving text messages from a male friend,” which, the reports state, upset Riley.

Once back at the room, an argument allegedly ensued, eventually allegedly turning physical, the reports state. The alleged victim described the rest of the evening “as a ‘free-for-all’ of (Riley allegedly) beating her up,” police wrote.

At some point, the woman told police she tried to call her husband for help, but Riley allegedly took her electronic devices away and damaged them.

By morning, she told police, she and Riley went their separate ways, and a short time later, she was able to contact her husband, who, the reports state, “encouraged her to report the incident to police.”

The husband was present when Nashua police met the alleged victim at Moultonborough police headquarters, and police said he told them he “was aware of the affair his wife was having” with Riley.

Based on the interviews with the alleged victim and other information they gathered during several days, police on Jan. 9 issued another warrant for Riley’s arrest. Again, Meredith police arrested him, and on Jan. 12, Nashua police drove to Meredith to take him into custody.
