Judd stumps for Warren in Nashua

NASHUA – Actress and activist Ashley Judd, known for film roles in “Kiss the Girls” and “Double Jeopardy,” campaigned for Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren on Friday at Liquid Therapy in Nashua.

This week, while the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump takes place in Washington, D.C., many of the Democratic candidates, including Warren, have tried to temper the impact the result the Feb. 3 Iowa caucuses will make on the race to the nomination.

In a Warren-Trump head-to-head election match-up, CNN shows Warren up 5 points, while Fox News shows Warren up 1 point. Meanwhile, the New York Times poll tracks Trump by 7.

So, as Warren fulfills her role as one of two representing Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate during impeachment, Judd traveled to New Hampshire to rally the support of Granite Staters.

With the call and echo of “Dream Big, Fight Hard,” Judd spoke to a crowd, saying, “I’m all in for Elizabeth Warren.”

Judd drew parallels between Warren’s meager upbringing, and her own family.

“Elizabeth’s story has so many twists and turns, like so many Americans,” Judd said. “She went on to study law, and she became a renowned expert on bankruptcy law. And I love this about her story. She went from being in a family that nearly went bankrupt, to studying why American families go bankrupt. And I think that speaks so much about her passion for public policy.”

The Independent Spirit award-winning Judd touted Warren’s capacity to unite the country.

“Warren is the candidate in this Democratic field who will turn out the broad coalition in our caucuses and in our primaries, and on Election Day,” she said. “She’ll have the turnout to beat Donald Trump.”

Judd touted Warren’s ability to comprehend the convergence of race, gender, class and ethnicity.

“Human rights intersect with economic rights,” she said. “It’s that yoking between (Warren’s) brain and heart. And obviously we have this mandate — we need to defeat Donald Trump. She is the candidate who can do it.”

Judd listed Warren’s plans, including the $10.7 trillion Green New Deal and the Green Deal for oceans.

“Obviously, it’s very disturbing to see what we’ve seen in the news recently,” Judd continued. “Just in the past few days, with the rolling back protections for our wetlands and our waterways. I’m an outdoors woman and it’s profoundly upsetting.”

Judd lives far from Los Angeles, but still packs star power. Still, she said she lives a rather regular life in Tennessee.

“I live in a 200-year old farmhouse,” she said. “My friends are folks who are mostly stay-at-home moms, with single-paycheck families. Some have health insurance, and some do not. Elizabeth knows that people need to bring down the cost of their prescription drugs. Even those with insurance know that they are one health shock away from losing their savings.”

Of course, Judd said, Warren has a plan for that.

“This isn’t just about Elizabeth,” she said. “Together, we can make it. We’ll dream big and fight hard.”
