CONCORD – Officials with the New Hampshire chapter of the Humane Society of the U.S. on Thursday presented their 2019 Humane Legislative Leader of the Year Award to Gov. Chris Sununu.

“Over the past year, Gov. Sununu has signed into law nearly a dozen new policies to protect animals in New Hampshire,” society Director for New Hampshire Director Julia Seeley said. “On behalf of the Humane Society of the U.S. and our New Hampshire supporters, it is with great pride and great appreciation that we present Gov. Sununu with our 2019 Humane Legislator of the Year Award.”

“We are here today to celebrate the monumental successes and kept promises from Gov. Sununu that ensure that New Hampshire is no longer a safe place for unscrupulous breeders who place profits over the care of the animals,” society Director of Policy for Companion Animals Lindsay Hamrick added. “We truly could not be here today without Gov. Sununu’s leadership.”

“I’m incredibly grateful to receive the Humane Society’s 2019 Humane Legislator of the Year Award,” Sununu said. “Working to strengthen our laws to further protect animals has been and should always remain a bipartisan effort. In just a few years, my office has worked closely with advocates to bring about meaningful change and move the ball forward. There’s always more work to do, more to learn, and more conversations to have – but we’re moving the ball forward and we’re getting the job done.”
