Final Dem debate of year is tonight
NASHUA – Should the 2020 Democratic presidential nominee pursue $20 trillion worth of additional federal spending to fund a Medicare for All plan, therefore making for-profit health insurance obsolete?
Is America ready for its first openly gay president, who would also be the youngest person ever elected to the office?
Can America afford to pay each and every citizen $1,000 cash per month, in addition to an array of other benefits?
Should the government send federal troops to confiscate weapons such as AK-47 and AR-15 rifles from otherwise law-abiding citizens?
Are Democrats serious about closing tax loopholes for giant corporations and high-net-worth individuals?
Could former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who didn’t even bother registering to run in New Hampshire, use a portion of his estimated $50 billion fortune to become the 2020 Democratic nominee?
With New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation (#FITN) presidential primary now less than eight weeks away, seven Democratic candidates are scheduled to be on the stage for this evening’s debate in Los Angeles.
SCHEDULED FOR THE STAGE
Joe Biden of Delaware
• Born: Nov. 20, 1942.
• Current or most recent job: Vice President from 2009-2017.
• Recent tweet: “Amazon, Netflix, General Motors, Chevron, Starbucks, and 86 other corporations paid less in federal income taxes than you did last year. It’s wrong — and it needs to end. It’s time corporations pay their fair share.”
Pete Buttigieg of Indiana
• Born: Jan. 19, 1982.
• Current or most recent job: Mayor of South Bend, Indiana.
• Recent tweet: “It’s not right when working Americans pay a higher tax rate than Fortune 500 companies. Large corporations profiting from a country that sustains their success must pay their fair share. As president, I will build an economy that values growth and fairness.”
Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota
• Born: May 25, 1960.
• Current or most recent job: Member of U.S. Senate.
• Recent tweet: “As I said at the #PublicEdForum, this is about teachers, but also about respecting the dignity of work — from bus drivers to cafeteria workers. That means affordable childcare, a secure retirement, raising the minimum wage and supporting all those in our public education system.”
Bernie Sanders of Vermont
• Born: Sept. 8, 1941.
• Current or most recent job: Member of U.S. Senate.
• Recent tweet: “Last year 91 corporations paid nothing in federal income taxes, including Amazon, GM and Delta. When politicians tell you we can’t afford education, health care, childcare or clean water, they’re lying. We’re going to make huge corporations pay their fair share.”
Tom Steyer of California
• Born: June 27, 1957.
• Current or most recent job: Money manager/investor.
• Recent tweet: “Presidential elections always come down to the economy. None of the leading Democratic candidates have built successful, intl businesses or created private sector jobs. We must nominate a candidate who can go head-to-head with Trump on the economy and win.”
Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts
• Born: June 22, 1949.
• Current or most recent job: Member of U.S. Senate.
• Recent tweet: “You probably paid more federal income taxes in 2018 than companies like Amazon, Chevron, Halliburton, and IBM. That’s corruption–and I’ve got a plan to make giant corporations start paying their fair share.”
Andrew Yang of New York
• Born: Jan. 13, 1975.
• Current or most recent job: Entrepreneur
• Recent tweet: “Fifth in national polling. Clear vision. Hundreds of thousands of donors. Dozens of offices in the early states. Million-dollar ad buys. The most intense support and growing fast. Sure seems like a serious presidential campaign. I wonder if and when the press will notice.”
