Moustakis joins forces with Sowerby in Amherst

By Staff | Dec 13, 2019

AMHERST – Moustakis Law LLC, a family and estate planning law firm headed by Peter Moustakis, is joining forces with Sowerby Law Office PLLC to form Sowerby & Moustakis Law PLLC, a law firm focused on estate planning, elder and family law, small business and probate. This merger will be effective Jan. 1.

The firm will be located in the offices occupied by Dwight Sowerby, at 282 State Route 101, Unit 4, Liberty Park, Amherst. Sowerby & Moustakis Law also has an office in Dedham, Massachusetts, at 30 Eastbrook Road, No. 301.

Sowerby has practiced in Amherst for the last five years and in Milford before that. Because of his background in business and in health care, he brings a unique perspective to both business law and planning, and elder law. He is licensed to practice law in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Moustakis, who lives in Amherst, is a member of the New Hampshire Bar and has been a member of the Amherst Ways and Means Committee for four years, serving as chairman the last two years. He has maintained a legal practice in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts for a number of years.

“It makes sense for us, and for our clients, to join forces,” Moustakis said. “Although Dwight and I have complementary practices, Sowerby & Moustakis Law will offer clients an expanded offering of services to help them navigate their personal and professional lives.”

“I’m excited to form Sowerby & Moustakis Law with Peter,” Sowerby said. “Peter and I have been working together and collaboratively for over a year. We share a dedication to our clients and a philosophy of practicing law that puts the clients first.”

The firm will handle legal matters such as:

• Estate planning,

• Business formation and small business counseling,

• Pet and equine law,

• Wills and living trusts,

• Special needs trusts,

• Health care proxy,

• Powers of attorney,

• Medicaid planning, and

• Municipal law.

The firm is committed to helping families through different legal matters as their lives unfold. Whether it is through the purchase of a new home, the preparation of a trust or dealing with the loss of a loved one, the firm will provide the legal counsel necessary.

The firm similarly helps small businesses owners through the various stages of their business life.

“Our approach to small-business law is one of the things that makes Sowerby & Moustakis different than many other law firms,” Moustakis said. “Not only do we help clients form a small business and deal with legal matters throughout the life of their business, we also help owners as they develop their estate plans. We help them ensure that when they pass on, their business will still operate or, if they choose, will wind down properly.”
