NASHUA – A couple of cats were caught inside an early morning fire Monday, but Nashua firefighters were able to rescue the felines from the building.

Nashua Fire Rescue members responded to a reported building fire at 10 Luke St. Upon arrival, reported smoke showing with a fire in the basement. As a result, a working fire was requested and an additional engine and ladder was sent to the scene to battle the blaze at the one-and-a-half-story wood frame ranch.

Firefighters were able to knock the flames down quickly, confining the fire damage to the basement of the ranch.

However, there was heavy smoke damage throughout the single family home. While all occupants had self-rescued themselves, firefighters conducted a search of the home. During this time, they were able to locate and rescue two cats.

There were no injuries involved, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation by Nashua Fire Marshal’s Office.
