Man indicted on sex assault charge

By Dean Shalhoup - Senior Staff Writer | Oct 24, 2019

NASHUA – In an interview with two Nashua police detectives at his Massachusetts home earlier this year, 72-year-old Bruno Meoli allegedly described an episode of sexual contact involving himself and a younger woman that would eventually lead to Meoli’s arrest on a charge of aggravated felonious sexual assault.

According to police reports filed in court, Meoli told the detectives he took the woman’s hand and placed it upon his genitals; the woman, Meoli said, then performed a sex act on him.

Meoli, according to the reports, also told detectives the woman said “no” – but, he added, “when he was growing up, (if) a girl said ‘no,’ it meant ‘yes.'”

Meoli frequents the Nashua condominium where the alleged offenses took place to help out his 85-year-old cousin, Guy Meoli, with minor repairs or maintenance the older man had trouble doing.

The alleged victim, according to police reports, is a caregiver for Guy Meoli’s sister, who owns the condo and lives there with him.

The October grand jury for Hillsborough County Superior Court-South this week handed up one indictment each for Bruno and Guy Meoli, charging Bruno with assaulting the woman using “force or violence,” and charging Guy with witness tampering, which accuses him of “attempting to induce (the alleged victim) to go to the Nashua Police Department and drop the charges against Bruno,” according to the indictments.

In the meantime, counsel for Bruno Meoli has filed a notice informing the court that he “intends to rely on the affirmative defense of consent” if the case goes to trial. That means he plans to argue that the alleged victim consented to the sex acts.

Next up for the men are their respective court appearances: Bruno Meoli is scheduled for a dispositional conference at 9 a.m. Nov. 7, while Guy Meoli is due to be arraigned at 1 p.m. on Nov. 14, according to their case files.
