Local man facing four charges of sexual assault

By Dean Shalhoup - Senior Staff Writer | Oct 24, 2019

NASHUA – A Hillsborough County grand jury has handed up four indictments against a 33-year-old Nashua man, accusing him of engaging in a pattern of sexual assault with a young girl during a period of several years.

Andrew Atkinson, of 2 Roedean Drive, allegedly began assaulting the girl in January 2013, when she was 4 years old, according to the indictments.

Two of the indictments accuse Atkinson of sexually assaulting the girl “on more than one occasion over a period of two months or more, and within a period of five years,” which is the definition of the special felony charge of aggravated felonious sexual assault – pattern sexual assault.

He was also indicted on one count each of attempted aggravated felonious sexual assault, also a special felony, and felonious sexual assault – victim under age 13, a Class B felony.

The attempted AFSA charge accuses Atkinson of “purposely attempting to engage” in sex acts with the girl, from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2018.

The sexual-contact charge alleges Atkinson “engaged in sexual contact” with the girl, from Jan. 1, 2013 to Dec. 31, 2018, according to the indictment.

Nashua police arrested Atkinson on Aug. 11, following a roughly three-week investigation detectives initiated upon receiving a report that Atkinson allegedly sexually assaulted a young girl known to him.

Uniformed patrol officers arrested Atkinson after detectives issued a warrant based on their investigation.

Atkinson is due in court on Nov. 27 for a dispositional conference in the case.
