N.H.’s first Amazon station opens in Nashua

NASHUA – Internet retail giant Amazon is officially open at 10 State St. in Nashua.
Amazon Senior Regional Manager David Galante said this delivery station, the first in New Hampshire, should eventually employ nearly 400 people.
“Our fulfillment centers hold all our inventory and they pick pack and ship all of our orders. Those orders then come to delivery stations. We’re the station that’s responsible for sorting it, then processing it in the most efficient way possible using the latest technology, and then getting it delivered to your front door perfectly every time,” Galante said during a Tuesday tour of the facility.
“That’s our goal every day – to exceed our customer’s expectations every single day with a smile on our faces,” he added.
Galante said he enjoys the positive vibe and welcoming attitude of Nashua, as he described the city as the perfect spot for a new location.
“The community is just so overwhelmingly positive, and excited to have us here and that’s the most important thing right there. We want to have a positive impact on the community,” Galante said. “We want to make sure that our customers know that we’re here and that we’re helping them to grow their business. We’re increasing jobs, and we’re really providing that extra level customer service that everybody is used to.”
Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess was in attendance and officially welcomed Amazon to Nashua. Board of Aldermen President Lori Wilshire and Alderman Rick Dowd also expressed excitement for the new center.
“We are really thrilled with the opportunity that Nashua is providing us here to join this community and to grow our logistics business in New Hampshire,” Galante said.
General Manager at ABC Package Express Dan Sherry spoke of his company being a delivery service partner for Amazon. He said before becoming a partner with Amazon, the business consisted of 75 employees. There are now 88 employees in Nashua alone. They are delivering roughly 35,000 packages per week.
“The support and guidance from Amazon has really been amazing to me as I’ve grown our business efficiently and cost-effectively. Amazon really has been there every step of the way,” Sherry said.
To Sherry’s point, Galante said, “We couldn’t get all these deliveries done without (delivery service partners). This program allows entrepreneurs to start their own businesses in partnership with Amazon and hire and bring on hundreds of drivers to help support our last mile delivery.”
Galante and Amazon staff members then guided community members on a tour of the facility. At the end of the tour, Galante presented Marguerite’s Place Executive Director Mary Jordan with a van full of supplies worth $10,000. This included five dryers, two couches and many toys. Marguerite’s Place is a Nashua-based nonprofit that offers transitional housing for women and children.
Galante thanked Jordan for all the organization does.
“You reaching out and helping these families. We want to be a part of that,” Galante said.
“This is just a gift that’s going to go on for a very long time,” Jordan responded.
