AMHERST – Students, along with their teachers, friends and family members, gathered on Calvetti Family Field on Friday to celebrate the graduation of the Souhegan High School class of 2019.

With a an atmosphere of joy, students bounced beach balls, blew bubbles and sprayed water pistols at each other as they settled into an evening. Valedictorian Jennifer Ladd, Salutatorian Jacqueline Chistolini as well as two beloved faculty members would address the students for the last time before they move onto their next stage of life.

Both the school’s retiring Principal Rob Scully and retiring gym teacher Mike Beliveao, known as “Coach B,” spoke fondly of their time at Souhegan, as well as the support they have for the 2019 graduates.

“We love to focus on things that are perfect,” Scully said addressing the crowd in a humorous, emotional speech to the students. “I’m here to tell you on a night when we are celebrating and recognizing your 12-year effort to be accomplished, to be successful, to be perfect.

“We are not and that’s OK,” Scully said.

“The world is not full of perfection,” he continued. “It is, however, in need, in great need, of warm compassionate collaborators, looking to empower their mind body and heart to respect and encourage the rights of others.”
