NASHUA – Three Rivier University programs recently received high accreditation within the last week.

Officials announced Tuesday that Rivier’s Doctor of Psychology in Counseling and School Psychology received national accreditation on contingency by the American Psychological Association (APA). The university will be able to apply for full accreditation within three years and is currently accredited on contingency as the program meets APA standards, though there is not enough outcome data yet for the full accreditation.

Rivier is one of only two institutions in New Hampshire to receive APA accreditation for this program, the university noted.

Rivier President Sister Paula Marie Buley stated, “Applicants across the nation seek programs distinguished by APA accreditation. This national credential ensures students that their education will meet the highest standards of their profession and will position them for achievement in their field.”

Graduates of this program go on to be school psychologists, practitioners in private practices or counseling centers and work in mental health agencies and programs and in hospital settings.

Also receiving accreditation last week was Rivier’s undergraduate business administration, business management, finance and marketing programs, in addition to the university’s Master of Business Administration programs, which have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

ACBSP currently accredits business programs at nearly 1,200 campuses in 60 countries and has a mission of promoting continuous improvement and recognizing teaching excellence.

Buley also stated, “Accreditation by the ACBSP affirms the quality of our business programs. In the U.S. alone, there are 4,300 colleges and universities. ACBSP accredits business programs at fewer than 1,200 campuses across 60 countries. This is a remarkable distinction earned by the dean and faculty of the business division. Of course, the beneficiaries of the accreditation are students who can pursue their Rivier business degree with confidence and pride.”

Aside from evaluating the quality of academic programs, ACBSP also looks at leadership, credentials and educational support, among other areas.

ACBSP Chief Accreditation Officer Steve Parscale stated, “This accreditation is evidence that Rivier is committed to providing the highest quality business education for its students.”

Rivier University Dean of the Division of Business Amir Toosi stated, “We are honored to receive this highly sought-after accreditation.

Rivier University’s Doctor of Nursing Practice also received accreditation recently.

According to additional university information, the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) has approved Rivier University’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program, including targeted track options, for accreditation.

This track prepares nurses for leadership and management roles in health care.

Buley stated, “Increasing demand for professionals at the highest levels of the health care system requires programs like the Doctor of Nursing Practice and individuals dedicated to lifelong learning. DNP graduates will forge the future of U.S. and global health care.”
