MERRIMACK – Based on the description they were given, officers called to The Residences at DW Highway late Friday night had no problem locating their suspect – police said he was the guy allegedly walking through the parking lot “completely naked.”

Richard Chase, 52, who lives at The Residences complex at 246 Daniel Webster Highway, allegedly greeted the officers by taking a swing at one of them, but the officer was able to avoid getting struck, police said.

Chase, however, allegedly continued his aggressive and combative behavior toward the officers, eventually forcing one of them to deploy his TASER in an attempt to subdue him, according to police.

The TASER hit subdued Chase somewhat, police said, but he still allegedly tried to resist officers’ attempts to take him into custody.

When they succeeded, police said, they placed Chase under arrest and transported him to police headquarters for booking.

Police didn’t specify whether Chase was clothed by then, or if officers had given him a blanket, which is the usual remedy when such situations arise.

He was booked on one count each of indecent exposure, attempted assault and resisting arrest, all Class A misdemeanors.

But during the booking process, police learned that Chase is currently on parole on what they described as a weapons charge, prompting them to place him on a 72-hour hold.

Chase was transported to Valley Street jail pending arraignment, which they said is scheduled for Dec. 13 in Merrimack district court.

It’s not clear whether Chase will be released from custody once the 72-hour hold expires, or if the court will schedule a bail hearing within that time.

Police said the incident began when a person at The Residences called to report that a naked man was knocking on another resident’s door.
