NASHUA – Spending the last month or so behind bars at Valley Street jail, Frank Hampson had plenty of time to reflect on where he’s been, where he is, and where he is going, his public defender told a Superior Court judge Friday.

The path Hampson chose, Attorney Eleftheria Keans said, begins with a residential substance abuse treatment program, where, Keans told Judge Jacalyn Colburn, he intends to “demonstrate his commitment to a healthy, sober and law-abiding life.”

After hearing additional assurances from Hampson and Keans, Colburn, who three weeks ago ordered Hampson to jail for violating conditions of his probation on multiple occasions, agreed to convert his bail to personal recognizance so he can enter the treatment program this week.

Among those assurances was that Hampson, if allowed to return to Nashua’s Adult Drug Court, would abide by the rules and participate as required, Keans said.

Hampson “had a chance to reflect on his actions, and his future actions,” while incarcerated, Keans added. “He agrees that if he leaves, or is kicked out” of the residential treatment program, “a warrant will be issued for his arrest.”

Hampson, 38, whose last known address is in Manchester, was accused of several probation

violations over the past couple of years, including arrests on felony charges. The offenses, according to his court file, ranged from “dishonesty in Adult Drug Court” and “non-compliance with Drug Court” rules to possession of a stolen watch and “failure to submit to reasonable searches of his property” by allegedly lying about the location of his car.

In granting the personal recognizance bail Friday, Colburn reminded Hampson that he “must abide by the rules” of the residential treatment program, “or your bail will revert to no bail,” meaning he would be held without bail.
