NASHUA – Merritt Eddy, a 45-year-old man who lists an Amherst address but told police he has no fixed address “because he travels alot,” was ordered held in jail Wednesday pending a bail hearing on charges that accuse him of threatening to kill a Nashua doctor.

Eddy, described in Nashua district court paperwork as a danger to himself as well as others, and who appeared to not understand the “issues” surrounding his arrest, allegedly sent 40 text messages to the doctor within five hours early Wednesday morning.

He faces one count each of stalking – placing an individual in fear, and harassment, both of which are misdemeanors. He was returned to Valley Street jail after a brief video arraignment Wednesday, and is scheduled to be back in court at 8:15 a.m. today morning for a bail hearing.

The doctor, described as a pediatrician affiliated with a Nashua hospital, called police Wednesday morning reporting a man had sent him numerous threatening text messages overnight, police said.

The doctor told officers he “was worried (the man) may come to his house or place of work and try to kill him,” according to police reports. An officer reported he counted 40 text messages the doctor received from the same phone number between 10:30 p.m. Tuesday and about 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Asked by police how he interpreted the messages, the doctor said he thought the man, by then identified as Eddy, “was at his house (Wednesday) morning and was waiting to kill him,” the reports state.

According to the complaint for the stalking charge, Eddy allegedly “caused (the doctor) to fear for his personal safety” by sending text messages stating, “Am I at ur window?” “None of you will know … when I’m going to be waiting for you … and I am (expletive) in a real rage now … watch out. It gets (expletive) ugly,” the complaint reads.

About two hours after the doctor called police, officers located what they believed to be Eddy’s pickup truck parked on Progress Avenue and found him sleeping inside.

Asked about the text messages, Eddy told police he “was upset with (the doctor) about various things,” the reports state. Eddy allegedly said he was “trying to scare the (expletive) out of him,” police added.

Neither the reports, nor the complaints filed in court, indicate a motive for Eddy’s alleged actions.
