Threats reported at high school

Extra police presence at Nashua North events as precaution

NASHUA – Shortly after they launched an investigation into Friday’s online threats received by Nashua High School North, police and school officials reportedly identified the student allegedly responsible for at least one of the threats.

Principal Nate Burns said in a statement that students, in response to “various rumors of a perceived threat” early Friday afternoon, brought to administrators their concerns about a social media post.

No details were given as to the nature of the threat, or whether it specifically targeted anyone.

Nashua Police Department officials declined to comment on the matter late Friday.

Burns said police and school officials, after speaking with students and staff members, were able to identify “the source of the … post,” and that investigators “met with the student and the student’s family.”

Although the threats were soon deemed “non-credible,” according to Superintendent Jahmal Mosley, Burns said North made the decision to postpone Friday’s pep rally “as a precautionary measure.”

It was unclear if the Friday threats were related to the scheduled Nashua High School North-South football game at Stellos Stadium. However, Mosley said in a voice message to parents that school-related events would have an extra police presence “as a precaution.”

One of the threats was made via the social media platform Snapchat, Mosley said, while the other made reference to “something occurring outside of the school.”

While there were “no credible threats” to student safety, Mosley said officials “take all types of threats very seriously.”
