NASHUA – A fire at 13 Kinsley St. late Monday afternoon has left six people temporarily without a home, according to Nashua Fire Rescue.

Two two and ½ story, multi family home had “smoke showing from the second story and eaves of the home,” NFR reported, and responding crews found the blaze in the second floor bedroom, spreading to an adjacent stairwell to the attic. The “burned out stairs” presented a hazard for the firefighters, according to the

department.

However, the bulk of the visible fire was knocked down quickly and crews were able to extinguish it shortly after.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire, and multiple pets were protected in place, unharmed on the first floor, NFR said.

The Red Cross assisted four of the building’s occupants, the other two had alternative solutions.

Police blocked traffic at Walnut Street, clogging surrounding traffic during the evening commute.

The fire is under investigation by the City of Nashua Fire Marshal’s Office. A cause has yet to be determined.

The NFR issued a public service announcement reminding people that working smoke detectors save lives, and to make sure to practice exit drills with the whole family.
