NASHUA – Owen Halverson’s family and friends continue struggling to come to terms with the loss of the popular 18-year-old Merrimack teen in a horrific crash Sunday night on the Everett Turnpike.

Halverson, who graduated from Merrimack High School this year, was killed when he was struck by a car as he and four friends stood next to their disabled vehicle after it struck a center median just south of Exit 10, police said.

The driver of the Toyota Avalon the teens were in, Daniel O’Connor D’Amico, also 18, apparently lost control, causing the Avalon to collide with the median.

Police said they got out to survey the damage when a Subaru Legacy, driven by Nicholas Beauchemin, 32, crashed into the Avalon and struck Halverson. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The others were treated for various injuries, police said.

Police, firefighters and ambulance personnel from Merrimack and Nashua responded, along with State Police units from Troop B, arriving at the scene shortly after 9 p.m.

On-scene personnel requested the presence of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit, which closed the turnpike to traffic and began its investigation.

Police said a section of the turnpike was closed for about four hours, but all lanes were reopened before the start of the morning commute.

While “all aspects” of the crash remain under investigation, police said it does not appear that alcohol was a factor.

Anyone with any additional information on the incident is asked to contact State Police Trooper Michael Pelletier at 223-8699 or michael.pelletier@dos.nh.gov.
