Early morning fire mars Scontsas Jewelry store front

By Staff | May 29, 2012

A strange, early morning fire damaged the awning outside a downtown business Tuesday.

Nashua Fire Rescue personnel were called to Scontsas Fine Jewelry, 169 Main St., shortly after 3 a.m., when a fire on the exterior of the building was reported, according to Deputy Fire Chief Michael O’Brien.

Crews quickly extinguished the blaze, which damaged the awning/canopy in front of the shop, and prevented the flames from extending into the building, O’Brien said.

O’Brien said officials haven’t deemed the fire suspicious, yet, but the Nashua fire marshal’s office is investigating.

He said the fire caused perhaps a couple of thousand dollars in damage.
