Police corral 21 on open warrants
NASHUA – Naked and recently hit by a Taser is a bad way to be placed under arrest. That’s exactly what happened though to city resident Mark Fader on Thursday night.
Fader was one of more than 20 people arrested by city, state and federal officers Thursday as part of a citywide sweep of people who had variety of outstanding arrest warrants.
Officers spotted a naked Fader, 50, in the entrance way of his 7 Morrill St. apartment Thursday evening and had to chase him upstairs toward his room, according to Nashua Police Sgt. Denis Linehan.
Inside his apartment, Fader allegedly tried to hide in a bathroom and then resisted officers as they tried to arrest him. A U.S. Marshal used a Taser, Linehan said, and Fader was eventually brought outside and given a robe.
That was one of the stranger arrests that about 20 officers, including Nashua police, Hillsborough County Sheriffs deputies, state probation and patrol officers and U.S. Marshals made as they spent nearly eight hours hitting the last-known addresses of 58 people in the city with warrants issued by probation and parole, the sheriff’s office or Nashua police.
Working in four teams of four men each, officials locked up 21 people on charges ranging from drug violations and assault to failure to appear in court and unpaid child support.
At one point during the evening, the Nashua Police Department’s holding cells were filled and arrangements had to be made to transport some prisoners to the Hillsborough County Department of Corrections in Manchester.
The effort topped expectations. Before it began, Linehan said he would count 10-12 arrests as a successful night.
“This particular night, we were fortunate that we had some good addresses on these subjects,” he said.
Linehan said most of the warrants served on Thursday were relatively minor charges since police would have been searching for suspects wanted on more serious and violent warrants immediately after they were issued.
“We’re not going after anyone violent. I mean, we don’t sit on those,” he said.
The two most serious charges among the group were second-degree assault, against Arend Tappan, 21, of no fixed address, (see related story on Page 3) and several domestic violence charges against Glen Walker, 21, of 23 Temple St. Linehan said police have been looking for those men since their alleged offenses happened but hadn’t had any luck until Thursday.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office requested to participate in Thursday’s sweep, Linehan said, adding the inter-agency efforts happen a couple of times a year.
“It kind of opens up the lines of communication with other departments, which is always a good thing,” he said. “The success also was a result of all the agencies working very well together.”

Nycholis Dejarnette, 25, of 16 Amory St. – possession of marijuana.
Karissa Scruggs, 18, of 4 Temple Place – simple assault.
