Telegraph launches online registration for website

By Staff | Apr 23, 2010

Today the Telegraph began the rollout of our new website registration system. If you look in the menu bar at the top right-hand side of the page you will see an invitation to either ‘sign-up’ or ‘login’ to the Telegraph. For future reference a full ‘how-to’ is available on our Frequently Asked Registration Questions page at http://nashuatelegraph.com/registrationfaq.

This new system is part of what we call a “unified registration” strategy. In the near future we hope to provide a single nashuatelegraph.com account to provide access to the full content of the Telegraph online, manage your print subscription, leave article comments, receive daily and breaking e-mail newsletters or text alerts, and submit letters to the editor.

Those features, and more, will be arriving in the coming months. For today’s launch we concentrated on integrating comments and newsletters with the new registration system.

If you are not a newsletter subscriber or regular commenter, no immediate action is needed. As announced last month, registration is not required until after you read 10 pages in any given 30-day period. Those 10 pages do not include section fronts (our home page, News, Business, Sports etc.) or the latest news updates featured on the front page of the site. Once you reach that limit you will automatically be asked to answer a few brief questions to create a free account.

If you are a current or recent subscriber to the Telegraph’s daily e-mail newsletter, your account has been migrated to the new system and you should receive your news as usual tomorrow morning. If we have your current e-mail in our records you should have received an message alerting you to these changes. To modify your newsletter and account preferences simply hit the “login” button at the top of any page and either login or recover your password if you have forgotten it.

If you are a regular commenter on the Telegraph website using a Disqus.com username, you may continue to do so. The only change is that starting next week we will be accepting comments from verified accounts only.

This does not mean you are required to post comments using your real name. When you sign-up for your free Telegraph account you will have the chance to select a “display name” that will be your commenting identity when you are logged into NashuaTelegraph.com. And when registering with Disqus, only a verified e-mail is required, not your full name In the future Disqus will allow readers to combine their Telegraph and Disqus identities so you will not need to maintain both accounts separately.

In June, the Telegraph plans to roll out phase two of this effort. At that point registered account holders will have access to 30 stories per month before being asked to subscribe to either the print or online version of the website. However until June there is no page limit or payment required to access nashuatelegraph.com.

These registration options and steps may raise some questions as you are creating new accounts. Our customer service and online teams are standing by to try and help. If you have any questions during this process please e-mail them to customercare@nashuatelegraph.com or reach us at (603) 594-6424.
