Dartmouth Health’s Kimberly G. Ellis, MD, is the first and only breast surgeon in New Hampshire to offer Magtrace technology to her patients. Magtrace is a non-radioactive liquid tracer used to map the potential spread of cancer to the lymphatic drainage.

LEBANON – Dartmouth Health patients in southern New Hampshire now have access to a fellowship-trained breast surgeon, affiliated with a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, in their area. Kimberly G. Ellis, MD, who recently joined Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics Manchester, specializes in breast surgery, breast cancer and oncoplastic surgery, which minimizes cosmetic damage from lumpectomy and mastectomy.

“A cancer diagnosis is scary, but I want patients to feel that they can talk with me and be heard,” said Ellis of her approach to working with patients. “I am here to help them through a tough time in their lives.”

Ellis is the first and only breast surgeon in New Hampshire to offer Magtrace technology to her patients. Magtrace is a non-radioactive liquid tracer used to map the potential spread of cancer to the lymphatic drainage. It works by visually marking the sentinel lymph nodes and is injected into the breast ahead of surgery, where it travels through the lymphatic system and into the nodes.

Ellis was trained to use Magtrace during her fellowship at the University of California San Francisco by Michael D. Alvarado, MD, the first U.S. surgeon to use Magtrace.
