Kuster speaks with Secretary Becerra, emphasizes importance of telehealth, Medicaid expansion for New Hampshire

By Staff | Mar 30, 2023

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Annie Kuster (NH-02), a Member of the prominent Energy and Commerce Committee, participated in a Health Subcommittee hearing with Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra. Heeding her calls for action, Kuster applauded the Department’s efforts to rebuild the health workforce and expand access to care and resources in rural communities.

“We know that the pandemic took a serious toll on our health systems and workforce. Access to telehealth became a critical tool for our frontline workers to connect to their patients, especially for those living in rural communities and states like New Hampshire,” said Rep. Kuster. “While we deal with the aftermath of the public health crisis, we are also seeing the long-term impact that COVID-19 has on our country’s mental health. Permanently expanding services like Medicaid is crucial to ensuring families in New Hampshire and across the country can access the care they need, when they need it. Doing so will extend health insurance coverage to millions of lower-income communities, helping to make them healthier and more economically secure.”

A senior Member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, Congresswoman Kuster is leading the charge to lower health care costs and expand access to quality care. Her bipartisan bill, the Humane Correctional Health Care Act, would help justice-involved individuals return to their communities without a lapse in care, saving taxpayer dollars and supporting our citizens.
