Pappas stands up for LGBTQ+ kids, joins bipartisan opposition to government overreach in education

By Staff | Mar 25, 2023

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Chris Pappas (NH-01), Co-Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus, released the following statement after voting against H.R. 5, the so-called Parents Bill of Rights Act, which passed the House today.

“Every student deserves a safe, inclusive learning environment at school, and every parent must feel confident in their child’s education,” said Congressman Chris Pappas. “As a proud product of Manchester public schools, I trust parents, students, and educators to shape policy and make decisions at the local level that are best for a community. This bill represents federal government overreach and also would jeopardize the safety and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ youth. This week a bipartisan majority of the New Hampshire House defeated similar legislation because Granite Staters believe in local control of education and understand that the education and support for our children must remain free from politics. I remain committed to ensuring that New Hampshire schools and communities have the resources and support they need, and I stand with Granite State families in opposing this misguided and harmful legislation.”
